You can certainly deploy OpenGate Small Business to other users in your organization over your local network or a virtual private connection (VPN) to your local network. The product does not currently support any Internet-based functionality.
The free version includes all the features of the full versions, but is limited to a single user, does not include the ability to add your own logo to reports, customize dashboards, modify future-use fields, create purchase orders, or manage inventory. You can upgrade to the full version at any time by purchasing the appropriate license.
We stand by our products through ongoing investment, and excellent customer support. We are based in North America, which means our responses to your inquiries may be slightly delayed if you are on another continent. We offer phone- and email-based product support, as well as user-forums where you can post questions.
We do offer consulting, with more than 19 years experience with Microsoft Access. Learn more here about our Microsoft Access Consulting services.
The Standard Edition includes many out-of-the-box flexibilities, but if you decide to customize OpenGate Small Business even further, the Fully Customizable Edition can be modified in many ways. For basic modifications, such as new creating new reports, or adjusting the look and feel of the screens, Visual Basic experience is not required. For more extensive changes, such as modifications to how sales tax, order totals, or other core functions operate, Visual Basic experience is a must.
What languages and countries are supported?
The code, administrative screens, and all comments are in English. However the menu buttons can be configured to display any language (including simplified Chinese).
OpenGate Small Business is tested and compatible with Access 2000, 2003, and 2007, 2010, and 2013. We don't support Access 97, unfortunately.
OpenGate Small Business licensing is available for a single user, 5-users, or 10-users.
Definitely. We have many professional developer clients that leverage OpenGate Software products to reduce the time to deliver quality solutions for their customers. You must purchase the appropriate number of user licenses for each customer that you create an OpenGate Small Business-based product.
Users will need to have the free Microsoft Access runtime installed at a minimum. If you plan to allow users to make design changes to the forms and tables, then they will need to have a full license for Microsoft Access.
OpenGate Small Business includes a central data file where all of your transactions and settings are stored. For a single-user scenario, the data file resides on your own PC. For a multi-user environment, you must have a Windows network in place where all users are able to access the same folder, which may be on a PC or dedicated file-server. Performance will largely be dictated by the speed and performance of your network connections and PCs.
If you purchase the Fully Customizable Edition, yes. You get full access to the forms, reports, and modules to change things as you see fit. Note that once you make changes to the objects as delivered, OpenGate Software will continue to assist you should you encounter issues, but may not be able to resolve every issue raised since the changes themselves are not supported. Additionally, you may need to incorporate your modifications into future versions of OpenGate Small Business if you choose to update your database to the latest version when it is available.
Absolutely. OpenGate Small Business has been tested using linked ODBC connections to MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server. Please note that upsizing to a database server solution will require additional steps to upgrade your users to each new version of OpenGate Small Business, as you will need to re-map the linked tables each time.
